Doing research on muscle fibers

My Intro to Nutrition and Exercise class at Stanford

This particular class was in the Summer of 2006. Eric Bean (on my left) and Michael Coffey Jr. were my guest speakers that day (on the topics of endurance and strength training, respectively).

I study myosin interaction with actin during muscle activation. This crosses over into questions of fatigue and metabolism.

Myofibril

Myofibril

This myofibril is about a millionth of a meter in diameter; over a thousand of these put together make up an individual muscle fiber cell. You can clearly see the bands of myosin and actin, the proteins that interact to contract muscle.
