RYAN's COMMENTS ON DR. CLYDE: "One of my biggest regrets from my time at Stanford (01'-05') was not taking a nutrition class from Dr. Clyde Wilson. If I had perhaps I would be even further along in my development as a professional marathon however, being only 27 years old, I feel grateful to have learned some nutritional tips that have directly impacted my performance. A few months before this years Boston marathon I began working with Dr. Clyde and immediately dropped a minute of my time from the previous year, improving from 2:09:40 in 2009 to becoming the fastest American to ever run the Boston Marathon in 2:08:40. Since I have began having my raw vegetable before consuming a significant amount of carbs, hydrating myself with enough water for my body to properly digest the fuel I am consuming, eating smaller but more frequent meals, I have found that my energy is sustained more evenly throughout my training and during the day and my stomach has gotten much more stable during training, which any athlete knows is key to performance. I have also found that I am leaner and yet still as strong as in years past. I have always known that breakthroughs in physical performance were largely going to be effected by nutrition and now am beginning to experience that reality through my work with Dr. Clyde. I don't have the post high carb crashes and have dialed in the last few days of carb loading before a marathon that are so important. Before working with Dr. Clyde I always felt like I was half guessing what the proper fuel was when at the dinner table, now I know what my body needs and how to give it just that. Thanks Dr. Clyde!"
There are some really great breakthroughs with food and athleticism. Raw veggies before carbs is an excellent tip. Actresses and actors do this to keep in top shape too.

If we get Ryan to talk to Dr. Dement, we'll have a really well rounded Stanford health team!
