Clyde, One day, I was rushed around most of the day. I ended up eating 5 Kind bars over the course of the day (1100 calories or so), wishing I had some real food, but didn't. At the end of the day, performance while riding was rather poor; I fatigued early on my standard 90 minute ride, which almost never happens to me. Would you attribute that to the energy content of the Kind bar? I know there's nothing for certain, but that thought had occurred to me. Lloyd
MY COMMENT: The only advantage this bar has over Hammer Bar is that it includes a trivial amount of muscle fueling as opposed to Hammer Bar, which ignores muscle fueling even more than the Kind Bar. See its ingredients below. It is amazing to me that this bar tries to act all natural and like it is good for the body when it is loaded with dead (destroyed phytonutrients) dried fruit to the hilt. The result: Body fat, low energy, low health. If you want the heatlh from the nuts bring a zip-loc baggie of mixed nuts with you for the day and a few apples. You still won't fuel your muscles well (unless you bring some crackers or bread) but at least you are eating foods in their natural state. The ideal snack to replace any bar: A nut butter sandwich on whole grain bread with a piece of fruit to replace any jelly or honey that you would otherwise put on it.
It is great that the company selling the Kind Bar is supporting peace in the Middle East, but this in no way makes the bar healthier. You can donate directly to the organizations associated with such efforts and thereby avoid the reduced health that comes from eating this bar. On the other hand, if you are using this bar as dessert you are on target, since most desserts do not contain healthy fats. See ingredients and the misleading advertising for the Kind Bar below:
