Clyde, Yesterday and today I deliberately ate more glucose-bearing foods:
- whole wheat bread with a small amount of peanut butter
- a modest amount of sourdough (white) bread
- hearty rye crisps
...and I'm pretty sure it it is helping. Given the very hard workout I did yesterday, my performance was excellent today, indicating good recovery, in spite of only 6 hours sleep. Lloyd
RESPONSE: Good. Just make sure to eat vegetables any time you eat carbs outside the two hours before or after training to make sure the carbs do not enter the bloodstream too quickly. Eating enough carbs to keep up with intensive trianing will increase body fat unless you slow down digestion each time you eat them. Fats (such as nut butter) and protein will reduce digestion but they introduce more calories at the same time, whereas a mouthful of spinach that you just throw into your mouth represents only 10 Calories per cup and packs a wallop in terms of slowing digestion and introducing phytonutrients (anti oxidants) into your body.
