Just a fitness trainer for SCFD with a question. Just noticed a patch on the market that claims to repel mosquitos, ticks, etc. by releasing Vitamin B1 into the blood stream. Take a look at this product and advise on whether or not this product is safe to use:
I tried to find scientific literature on PubMed supporting the use of thiamin as an insect repellant and could only find a paper from 1958 written in German in a journal called "Schweiz Med Wochenschr". I cannot speak or read German, and Pubmed does not offer an abstract on this paper, so I have no idea what it says. There is no other work on this topic. Therefore, the company selling this B1 patch may say there is scientific backing for their product, but I cannot comment one way or the other. My gut sense is that there would be more science on this if it were true.
